Millennials have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to living with capitalism in the present day. From the recession in 2008, and the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020, Millennials are in a unique situation compared to their parents. Those who make up generation Y are more likely to live with their parents until they are in their 30s, are having kids later than previous generations, in more student debt than anyone else, more likely to be underemployed, and due to inflation, they actually make much less money than baby boomers or generation X. In this clip we can see a woman breaking down as she claims to “have done everything right”, by following the “tried, and true method.” Of going to school and working. Unfortunately working part time doesn’t get you anywhere, and once would stull be held hostage by the cost of living and school debt. This woman expressing her situation on TikTok was probably the last cry for help before doing something more drastic.
